About the Lake Las Vegas, Nevada AreaNestled in the desert mountainside just 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, luxurious Lake Las Vegas (often referred to as Lake Las Vegas Resort) is home to championship golf courses, world-class hotels, spas, and casinos, upscale restaurants and boutiques, and exquisite residential communities where life is unparalleled around the 320-acre man-made lake. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the outdoor pleasures of fishing, swimming, and sailing, wind surfing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking in this Mediterranean-styled oasis. Lake Las Vegas is indeed a great place to live! Beautiful Location Lake Las Vegas Resort is located in Henderson, a city in Clark County, southern Nevada, only five miles southeast of Las Vegas. It is separated from fabulous Lake Mead National Recreation Area by mountains and desert. Lovely Henderson is conveniently located just a few miles from McCarran International Airport as well as the Henderson Executive Airport, and with the recent completion of I-215 into Henderson, the city is extremely accessible. Great Weather No matter what the season in Lake Las Vegas, there are many sunny days with blue skies and low humidity. It rains sometimes in the winter and in the fall, and on occasion in the summertime there will be a brief thunderstorm. Because of the resort’s high setting in the Mojave Desert, the air is very fresh. When the temperature sometimes peaks to above 100 degrees F in July and early August, the weather remains rather comfortable because of the consistently low humidity of the area. Summer evening weather is just fabulous in Lake Las Vegas, and winters are moderate to cool, with daytime highs around 60 F and evenings around 40 F. Brief History The great vision for Lake Las Vegas was born in 1960 when Carlton Adair and the National Park Service exchanged land, giving Adair 2,245 dry canyon acres in exchange for his property on Lake Mead. Adair dreamed of creating a "Lake Adair" on the land, and he secured water rights from Congress. Unfortunately, Adair went bankrupt in 1972. In 1980, Transcontinental acquired the property and water rights, and in September 1988, construction began on Lake Las Vegas Resort’s dam. The 18-story, 4,800-foot-long, 150-foot-high dam took more than two years to build. Lake Las Vegas has a depth of 145 feet and an elevation of 1,400 feet above sea level. The lake was created by filling in the canyon in the high desert countryside. It took about eight years to fill it. With 10 miles of shoreline, it is the largest man-made lake in Nevada. The lake is the centerpiece of what developer Ron Boeddeker calls "a whole Mediterranean world," a scaled-down version of the famed Lake Como in the Italian Alps, with architectural themes drawn from Casablanca, Venice, Tuscany, Marseilles, Capri, Barcelona, and Naples. The private South Shore Golf Club opened in 1995, the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Nevada. The first resort residents moved in the following year. Lake Las Vegas Resort got a tremendous boost when the Hyatt (now owned by Loews Hotels) built a hotel and convention center on the North Shore, when the Ritz-Carlton opened a facility with luxury suites, a high-end day spa, and a casino, and when the beautiful 50-acre Tuscan-styled MonteLago Village opened its doors in the spring of 2003.
A Well-Planned Development A few years ago Lake Las Vegas was recognized by Glasgow, Scotland--1999 UK City of Architecture and Design--as one of ten outstanding projects that will define contemporary urban life in the 21st century! The resort is definitely built to last. Builders use only high-end materials and precision architecture, only real wood trim, real tile roofs, and solid pillars. "It's a very well-planned development," says Mary Kay Peck, head of Henderson's community planning, and current president of the American Planning Association. "They have a clear vision of what they want. They went for a high-end product, and stuck to their vision." Today, within the 3,592-acre master-planned community there are 19 distinct neighborhoods that offer exquisite custom home sites, courtyard villas, waterfront and golf villas, resort condominiums, luxury executive homes and courtyard town homes. Lake Las Vegas is composed of two sections. On the North Shore is the commercial area, where the AAA Five Diamond-rated Ritz-Carlton, Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort, and MonteLago Village shine like jewels. Amland Development, Centex Destination Properties, Toll Bros, Pardee, and other well-known builders have purchased development sites to create individual communities here based on a Mediterranean theme. Plans for the area call for the development of resorts, semi-custom homes, and condominiums. On the guard-gated South Shore, where plans call for only exclusive residential development, there is a serene and comfortable lifestyle. Homes here are a unique blend of custom waterfront residences, fairway homes, villas and townhouses and are constructed within eight private enclaves set amid magnificent scenery.
Recreation and Points of Interest MonteLago Village resembles a lakeside Italian town, with cobblestone streets, fountains, boat docks, boutiques, waterfront restaurants, and village squares. Beautiful lakeside paths, flowers, and landscaping help make this an incredibly relaxing shopping experience where you feel a million miles away from Las Vegas. You’ll find a variety of fine boutiques and restaurants that you won't find anywhere else. Rent a boat or even a yacht for that special anniversary at the MonteLago Village Marina or join other residents for a full casino gambling experience in an intimate setting at the MonteLago Casino.
The Ritz-Carlton is an Italian-style resort at MonteLago Village that offers luxurious accommodations, restaurants, shopping, a spa, world-class golf, a casino, meeting and banquet facilities, pedestrian promenades, the best Sunday brunch in the whole area, and the Florentine-style Pontevecchio Bridge, modeled after the Pontevecchio Bridge in Florence, Italy, that dates back to Roman times. The two-level bridge spans the lake's inner harbor 375 feet and is home to upscale boutiques, restaurants, and guestrooms. It is Southern Nevada's only bridge over water.
At Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort (formerly the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort) you can pamper yourself at the spa, play a great game of golf, go kayaking or canoeing, or dine at one of the four restaurants. Although this Mediterranean-themed resort is just 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, it feels worlds away! The scenery is just gorgeous here. Three Italian gondolas , the "Principessa," "Serenissima" and "La Fenice," provide romantic cruises over the waters of Lake Las Vegas, complete with serenading gondoliers, champagne, and gourmet dinners. The gondolas seat 10 to 12 people and are the actual size of a Venetian gondola. Couples even kiss under the Pontevecchio Bridge as they do in Venice, Italy, and can request roses, a "message in a bottle", and disposable cameras for that romantic memory to cherish! Lake Mead National Recreation Area, one of the largest national recreational areas in America, offers a wealth of things to do the year round, including sport fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and wonderful hiking. Home to thousands of desert plants and animals, it is a great place to take photographs or just bask in the sun. The weather is marvelous almost all the time.
Golf South Shore Golf Club was Jack Nicklaus' first design for a private course in Nevada. The par-71 course has generous fairways, and combines such distinct Nicklaus features as bunker-guarded small greens and holes that place a premium on long-iron play. A truly unique golfing experience. The award-winning Reflection Bay Golf Club features the first public golf course in Nevada designed by Jack Nicklaus. The par-72 course winds through the desert around waterfalls and arroyos, with five holes along the lake’s beautiful shoreline. Where Magazine rated Reflection Bay the top course in the Las Vegas area. The spectacular Falls Golf Club, located at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas, is a 7,250-yard, par-72 course designed by Tom Weiskopf. The 18-hole course’s breathtaking scenery, including its view of the Las Vegas Strip, is only one reason why in January 2004, Golf Digest ranked The Falls one of “America’s 10 Best New Public Courses”! Spas Go for a luscious massage at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort’s Spa Moulay! This wonderful 9,000-square-foot spa offers nine treatment rooms, a complete fitness center with a complete line of Life Fitness cardio and strength training equipment, a full hair salon, and more. At the award winning 30,000-square-foot spa at the Ritz-Carlton, there are 24 treatment rooms, yoga and other movement instruction, a complete fitness center, a full-service salon, and more. Here you can have your skin enriched by the newest and finest elixirs on earth! Shopping and Dining MonteLago Village, with its quaint cobblestone streets, is the hot spot to shop along the waterfront in Lake Las Vegas. Its exquisite boutiques are one of a kind, and with many elegant cafes and restaurants in the Village as well, you are sure to have a relaxing and enjoyable shopping experience! Here are some shops to visit: Moonbeams, for women’s fashion, Da Mincci Jewelers, for beautiful jewelry, J. Ryan’s, for men’s and boy’s fashion, Collector’s Fine Art Glass Artique, for hand-blown glass art, Alexander Perfume & Cosmetics, for custom fragrances and skincare, Flights of Fancy, for kite, chimes, and anything that’s wind-related, La Havana Cigar Bar, for great cigars, Tesoro, for unique home furnishings, The Village Golf Shop, for golf accessories, Wilderness Wonders, for wildlife photography, Scruples, for designer footwear and eyewear, and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, for incredibly mouthwatering chocolates. Make sure you stop in for that refreshing authentic Italian ice cream at Tutti Gelati! Some of the best restaurants in Las Vegas are not on the Strip but are available at Lake Las Vegas Resort. Here, there is a restaurant to please every palate and budget. The elegant Mira Lago Lakeside Mediterranean Café overlooking the lake at Reflection Bay Golf Club is one of the best Las Vegas Restaurants. It offers inside or outside dining and a full assortment of Mediterranean/California dishes. Another fine Las Vegas restaurant is the Vineyard Ristorante and Bar at the Falls Golf Clubhouse. It overlooks the splendid golf course and serves authentic Italian cuisine. Located in MonteLago Village, Como's is a casual steakhouse in the heart of Lake Las Vegas Resort's shopping and entertainment center. Take advantage of the outdoor seating and enjoy the view! At beautiful Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort, Marssa offers fine dining overlooking the lake. Master Chef Fuji prepares an award-winning Pacific Rim-inspired menu, including a full sushi bar. Relax at the Café Tajine for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The Medici Café and Terrace at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas, serves a delicious breakfast and lunch as well as a spectacular weekend brunch. For dinner, indulge yourself in Mediterranean-style cuisine and fine wines. At Casino MonteLago, Tenuta offers a large menu, from appetizers to desserts, 24-hours a day.
